Pascoe Vale South

About Us

The Pascoe Vale South Kip McGrath Centre is owned and operated by local resident Colleen Underwood who has over 30 years teaching experience. Colleen is helped out by teachers with expertise in a variety of fields covering all areas of education from Prep to Year 12 i.e. Literacy, Numeracy. Matching the student to the tutor ensures that each student is given the best possible assistance for their needs.

What We Do

The first step is to undergo a free assessment to understand the needs of each student and any areas of concern you may have. This can range from understanding learning difficulties and putting a program in place to help through to accelerated classes to enable students to achieve academic excellence. Each program is individually designed using resources to ensure that the students' needs are met and exceeded.

Areas of focus include:

Mathematics

Numeracy skills including;

  • number skills

  • times tables

  • fractions

  • decimals

  • percentages

  • Problem solving, including learning different ways that the same problem may be presented

English

Literacy skills including;

  • reading

  • spelling

  • grammar

  • comprehension

  • writing skills

  • handwriting

Secondary and VCE students attend for either Maths or English with specialist teachers in that area.

Students are regularly assessed to ensure that the program they are working with is still the best fit for them.

Kip McGrath Education Centres not only provide learning skills to help with any gaps or to excel in classes, they teach students independent learning, raising self esteem and confidence in their own abilities to achieve.

August Newsletter 2010
Dear Parents and Students,

This month I am pleased to announce the first awards for “Student of the Month”.

Over the weeks in July, teachers have been nominating their students for Student of the Month to acknowledge exceptional achievements, great attitude and/or significant advancement with work. These students received a certificate to recognise their individual success. The Student of the Month will receive a special medal as a reminder of their achievements. Congratulations to the nominees:

Robert Kamber – for great work and concentration during sessions- WINNERess_robert_kamber_web

Matt Marincic – for great work and diligence in all tasks - WINNER

Lucas Rizzo – for perseverance with his spelling

Yahea El-Zayat – for great work and concentration

Jordyn Polimene – for trying really hard with her work

Helin Bakir – for improvement in concentration and effort

Ersoy Bekir – for dedication to his work

David Marquette – for really trying with his reading

Michael Raponi – for a positive attitude

Yasmin Pitisano – for working hard and a positive attitude

Emily Coyle – for completing all the Trigonometry exercises

As we approach the middle of the term, it is important that consistent attention is paid to all aspects of school work, as well as the extra time spent at tutoring. A number of students have not been giving attention to the homework set during sessions. This is an important part of the Kip system to reinforce and practise skills learnt each week. Home work that is not done or rushed while driving to lessons, lessens the value gained from tutoring.
